Kogi State Governor’s Bold Move to Support Education, Boost Student Success
In a significant boost for students in Kogi State, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has approved ₦316 million in bursary allowances to assist 8,750 verified students of Kogi origin. This initiative is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to support education and reduce the financial burden on students.
Key Highlights of the Bursary Allocation
- ₦300,000 for Law Students: A total of 201 Kogi State law students studying at law schools across Nigeria will each receive ₦300,000. This amounts to a combined ₦60.3 million aimed at ensuring these future legal professionals can focus on their studies without worrying about financial constraints.
- ₦30,000 for Other Undergraduates: Undergraduate students in other fields will also benefit, with each student receiving ₦30,000 to help with tuition and other academic expenses.
Supporting Talent Abroad
In addition to domestic bursaries, the Kogi State government has awarded a foreign scholarship to Miss Favour Oluwatimilayo Toyin Adebayo, a student from Nasarawa State University. Miss Favour has secured a spot in an exchange programme that will see her continue her studies in Poland, with the scholarship covering her tuition, accommodation, and other essential expenses.
A Focus on Education for a Brighter Future
During the presentation of the scholarship cheque to Miss Favour, the Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, emphasized the government’s commitment to improving education standards. The Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Scholarship Board, Mr. Afolabi Joseph Raji, also praised the initiative, stating that it aligns with Governor Ododo’s strategy to reduce financial pressures on students and empower them to succeed academically.
Governor Ododo’s commitment to education was further demonstrated in October 2024 when he approved ₦600 million to cover WAEC fees for 18,734 students in public secondary schools across the state. This ensures that no student is left behind due to financial barriers.
Conclusion: Empowering the Youth for Future Success
Governor Ododo’s administration continues to prioritize education as a key pillar for development. By providing financial support to students and facilitating opportunities for academic excellence, the government is paving the way for a brighter future for Kogi State’s youth.
