Gombe State University Introduces Postgraduate Diploma in Community Health Education for 2025/2026

The Gombe State University (GSU) Institute of Education has officially announced the launch of its Postgraduate Diploma in Community Health Education (PGDCHE) for the 2025/2026 academic session, marking a major milestone in health education across the North-East region.

This new programme, approved under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, aims to equip health professionals with advanced community health and teaching skills necessary for modern public health challenges.

A Milestone in Health Education

The PGDCHE programme is designed to provide a robust blend of academic theory and hands-on community health practice. It targets professionals with a Higher Diploma in Community Health Officers (CHO) or a Bachelor’s degree in any health-related discipline who wish to upgrade their qualifications and expand their career prospects.

According to the Institute, the programme offers comprehensive training in health education, community practice, and teaching methodologies, preparing graduates to contribute meaningfully to community well-being and public health development.

Programme Duration and Accreditation

The PGDCHE runs for one academic year, divided into two semesters. It holds full accreditation from both the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN).

Importantly, Gombe State University remains the only approved university in Nigeria’s North-East region offering this specialized postgraduate diploma.

Graduates from the programme not only gain advanced professional competence in community health but also develop the pedagogical skills needed to teach in health institutions and training schools.

Additionally, the PGDCHE serves as a gateway to higher degrees such as Master’s and PhD programmes, enabling graduates to pursue broader academic and research opportunities.
