Godfrey Okoye University Prepares for Grand Convocation, Honours Nigerians with Doctorates
November 28, 2025: Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI) in Enugu is set to host a week-long convocation celebration, culminating in the awarding of certificates to approximately 560 graduating students on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
The announcement came from Mrs Lynda Ugwuonah, Chairperson of the Senate Ceremonies Committee, during a live broadcast on Dreams FM Enugu. She revealed that graduates hail from the Faculties of Management and Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Environmental Studies, Law, Arts and Education, as well as the School of Postgraduate Studies.
In addition to student awards, the university will confer honorary doctorate degrees on two distinguished Nigerians and bestow the title of Professor Emeritus on two senior academics.
A Week of Celebration
The convocation program spans seven days, beginning with a Holy Mass on Sunday, November 30. Highlights of the week include:
- Monday, December 1: Competition Day
- Tuesday, December 2: GOUNI Marathon & Press Briefing
- Wednesday, December 3: Creativity Day
- Thursday, December 4: Parents’ Forum & Entrepreneurship Day
- Friday, December 5: Convocation Lecture, Hall of Fame induction, and Professor Emeritus conferment
- Saturday, December 6: Certificate awards for graduates
- Sunday, December 7: Closing Holy Mass
Marathon Promotes Health and Career Readiness
Speaking on the GOUNI Marathon, Professor Mrs Modesta Egiyi, Chairperson of the Marathon Committee and University Bursar, highlighted that over 70% of GOUNI graduates secure employment after completing their national service. She attributed this success to the university’s focus on practical, career-ready skills.
Professor Egiyi also announced the December 2025 launch of GOUNI’s new DNA Centre at the main campus in Ugwuomu Nike. She added that the marathon, first held in 2022, continues to foster health, teamwork, and unity among young Nigerians.
For this year’s marathon, strict safety measures are in place. Participants who are medically unfit or violate the rules will not be allowed to compete.
