FUTA 36th Convocation: 240 First-Class Graduates Shine in Academic Excellence
The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is set to celebrate the academic achievements of 2,747 students at its 36th convocation ceremony, with 240 graduates earning first-class honours, underscoring the institution’s commitment to excellence.
The announcement was made by Vice-Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji during a media briefing on campus. She emphasized that the outstanding performance reflects the University’s dedication to academic discipline and high-quality education.
Breakdown of Graduating Students
- First-Class Degrees: 240
- Second-Class Upper Division: 1,479
- Second-Class Lower Division: 912
- Third-Class Degrees: 116
In addition to undergraduate achievements, FUTA will award 867 postgraduate degrees, including 627 MTech, 86 PGD, and 154 PhD awards. Professor Oladiji credited the accomplishments to students’ hard work, faculty support, and a nurturing academic environment.
FUTA’s Research and Technological Advancement
Despite challenges in the higher education sector, FUTA continues to strengthen its role as a leading technology-focused university in Nigeria. The institution has made significant progress in climate and space sciences, agriculture, engineering, and digital technology, with both faculty and students actively participating in global research collaborations.
Highlighting the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Professor Oladiji encouraged more students to take advantage of the scheme, noting that over 3,000 FUTA students have benefited so far.
Government Support: Interest-Free Staff Loans
The Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative, has begun disbursing interest-free loans through the Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund. Education Minister Dr Tunji Alausa launched the exercise at FUTA, noting that 30,000 applications were received, with 9,000 approvals. He was joined by Minister of State for Education Professor Suwaiba Ahmad during the presentation of cheques to beneficiaries.
