FUKASHERE Secures NUC Approval for Four New Medical Programmes Ahead of 2025/2026 Session

The Federal University of Kashere (FUKASHERE) has achieved a new academic milestone as the National Universities Commission (NUC) approved four full-time medical and health science programmes to commence in the 2025/2026 academic session.

This major development followed a resource verification visit by the NUC, which confirmed that FUKASHERE possesses the required teaching staff, laboratories, and facilities to effectively run the new degree programmes.

The Newly Approved Programmes

According to an official letter dated October 17, 2025, and signed by Abubakar M. Girei on behalf of the Executive Secretary of the NUC, the following programmes have been approved for full-time study only:

  • MBBS, Medicine and Surgery
  • B.Sc. Human Anatomy
  • B.Sc. Human Physiology
  • B.Sc. Pharmacology

The letter emphasized that the approval covers only the full-time mode of study. Any intention by the university to introduce part-time options will require a separate application and fresh approval from the Commission.

Boosting FUKASHERE’s Academic Strength

The NUC commended FUKASHERE for its steady academic progress and encouraged the management to maintain adequate human and infrastructural resources. The Commission noted that the new programmes reflect the university’s growing commitment to quality education and national development.

The launch of the MBBS Medicine and Surgery programme, in particular, marks a landmark achievement for FUKASHERE. It positions the university to train medical doctors locally, reducing the pressure on other institutions and improving access to healthcare education in Gombe State and neighboring regions.

What This Means for Students

For aspiring students, especially those interested in health and medical sciences, FUKASHERE now offers more opportunities close to home. The addition of these four new programmes means more career pathways, hands-on learning experiences, and local training options within Nigeria’s educational system.

This expansion demonstrates FUKASHERE’s dedication to building a vibrant academic environment that blends innovation, research, and community impact.

As the 2025/2026 session approaches, the university stands ready to welcome a new generation of students eager to make their mark in medicine and allied sciences.
