FG Sets Strict Deadlines for 2025 Admissions — JAMB Warns Defaulting Universities

The Federal Government has set firm deadlines for the 2025 tertiary admission exercise, warning universities and other higher institutions against delays in submitting their candidate lists.

This resolution was reached at the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, held on July 18, 2025, and chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (CON). The meeting established clear timelines to ensure a smooth, uniform academic calendar across all Nigerian tertiary institutions.

Submission Deadlines for Admission Lists

According to the meeting’s resolution:

  • Public universities must submit their lists of qualified first-choice candidates to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on or before Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
  • Private universities are expected to send in their recommendations by Friday, October 31, 2025.

This schedule, JAMB noted, will allow sufficient time for polytechnics and colleges of education to process their own admissions seamlessly.

Official Closing Dates for 2025 Admission Exercise

To maintain a consistent academic calendar, the following deadlines have been approved for the closure of the 2025 admission process:

  • Public Universities: October 31, 2025
  • Private Universities: November 30, 2025
  • Polytechnics and Colleges of Education: December 31, 2025

These timelines, the Federal Government said, are designed to ensure order, fairness, and efficiency in the nation’s admission process.

JAMB Raises Concern Over Delays

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), through its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), expressed concern that some institutions have yet to forward their recommended candidates despite receiving clear directives and ample time.

It was particularly observed that several public universities missed the September submission deadline. The policy meeting had earlier emphasized that schools must complete and archive their admissions — even if not ready to resume — to maintain compliance with the national schedule.

Defaulting Universities Urged to Act Fast

As a result, JAMB has urged the following universities to commence their 2025 admission processes immediately:

  • Northwest University, Kano (Kano State)
  • Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil (Kano State)
  • Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil (Kano State)
  • Benue State University, Makurdi (Benue State)
  • Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna (Niger State)
  • Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna (Kaduna State)
  • Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo (Oyo State)
  • Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Funtua (Katsina State)

JAMB reminded the affected schools that further delay could lead to automatic reassignment of unprocessed candidates to other institutions under the same admission tier.

What This Means for Students

For 2025 admission seekers, this development means that institutions must work within the approved schedule — ensuring faster processing, early admission lists, and timely resumption.

JAMB has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and efficiency in Nigeria’s tertiary education system, assuring candidates that no qualified applicant will be left behind due to institutional delays.
