FG Denies Fake News About Scrapping JAMB, Reaffirms Its Role in University Admissions
The Federal Ministry of Education has firmly dismissed a false report circulating in newspapers and across social media claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
In a statement released by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (CON), the Ministry described the viral report as completely untrue and misleading. Dr. Alausa emphasized that the Ministry never issued or authorized any announcement suggesting that JAMB’s role in the admission process has been removed.
“JAMB remains the only body legally empowered to conduct entrance examinations and oversee admissions into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide,”
— Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, Minister of Education.
The Minister reaffirmed that the established admission process through JAMB remains fully active and urged the public to ignore any publication suggesting otherwise.
Ministry Warns Against Misinformation
The Federal Ministry of Education distanced itself from the false publication, warning students, parents, and school administrators to rely solely on verified information from official government channels.
According to Dr. Alausa, both the Ministry and JAMB remain committed to ensuring transparency, fairness, and credibility in Nigeria’s admission system. He assured Nigerians that merit continues to be the key determinant for all admissions into tertiary institutions.
“We will continue to safeguard the integrity of the admission process. Any claim that undermines JAMB’s authority is false and should be disregarded,”
— Dr. Alausa added.
Media Outlets Urged to Verify Information
The Ministry also issued a stern warning to media organizations, bloggers, and online publishers to always verify news before releasing it to the public. Spreading unverified claims, it noted, creates confusion and damages trust within the education sector.
Reiterating its collaboration with JAMB and other educational agencies, the Ministry stated that there has been no policy change regarding university or tertiary admissions in Nigeria.
Public Advised to Rely on Official Channels
For accurate updates and verified information about education policies and admissions, the public is advised to visit the official websites and social media pages of both the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB.
In summary, JAMB remains the central authority for managing admissions into Nigerian tertiary institutions, and any report claiming otherwise is entirely false.
