Federal University Lokoja Opens Applications for New Vice-Chancellor Ahead of February 2026

The countdown has begun. On February 14, 2026, the seat of Vice-Chancellor at the Federal University Lokoja (FULokoja) becomes vacant, and the search is officially on for a new leader to steer the fast-rising institution into its next chapter.

Founded in 2011, FULokoja has transformed from just two faculties into thirteen, offering over 60 programmes, a College of Health Sciences, and a Postgraduate School — all within just over a decade. The university says it wants a Vice-Chancellor who can match this growth with vision, innovation, and global competitiveness.

What the Role Entails

The Vice-Chancellor is not just a ceremonial figure. The office holder serves as:

  • Chief Executive of the University
  • Head of Academics
  • Permanent member of the Governing Council
  • Chairperson of the Senate

In essence, the Vice-Chancellor directs both the academic and administrative affairs of the institution.

Key Requirements for Candidates

Applicants must meet strict qualifications set by the Governing Council, including:

  • A minimum of Second Class Lower in the first degree plus a PhD or professional equivalent.
  • At least 10 years as a professor at a recognised university.
  • A 15-year track record in university service.
  • Evidence of leading a funded research project.
  • Strong academic record, including at least 30 citations across Google Scholar, Scopus, or ResearchGate.
  • A history of fundraising, partnerships, and international collaboration.
  • Experience in ICT-driven transformation in education.
  • Must be below 65 years by February 14, 2026, and of sound character.

Beyond academic achievements, the university is looking for a leader with emotional intelligence, negotiation skills, and the ability to manage diversity.

Salary and Benefits

Remuneration and benefits are aligned with what is obtainable in other federal universities, guided by Federal Government and Governing Council regulations.
