Crescent University Secures NUC Approval for New Law and Computing Programmes Starting 2025/2026

Crescent University is set to expand its academic offerings as the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved three new full-time programmes set to begin in the 2025/2026 academic session. The development marks a major boost for the institution’s law and technology faculties, strengthening its position among Nigeria’s fast-growing private universities.

NUC Gives Green Light to New Degree Programmes

The announcement was confirmed through an official NUC letter dated November 13, 2025 (Reference: NUC/AP/P21/VOL.II/12). The document was presented to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibraheem Gbajabiamila, by the Acting Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu.

According to the NUC, the approved programmes will run strictly in full-time mode and will be domiciled on the university’s main campus in Abeokuta.

The newly approved programmes include:

  • LLM Law (Postgraduate)
  • BSc Cyber Security
  • BSc Software Engineering

A Major Leap for Law and Computing Education

The introduction of the LLM Law programme expands Crescent University’s postgraduate legal studies, offering advanced pathways for students pursuing careers in academia, policy, and legal practice.

Meanwhile, the BSc Cyber Security and BSc Software Engineering programmes provide timely opportunities for students interested in high-demand tech fields such as information security, cyber-defense, software development, and digital innovation—areas rapidly gaining significance in Nigeria’s digital economy.

Inside the NUC Approval Process

The approval followed a detailed review conducted by the NUC’s Academic Planning Directorate. During a working visit to the Commission, Professor Gbajabiamila received commendations from the Executive Secretary for the university’s efforts to strengthen its academic structure and diversify its programmes.

The approval letter concluded with the Executive Secretary’s formal acknowledgment and best wishes to the Crescent University Vice Chancellor.

What This Means for Prospective Students

Beginning in the 2025/2026 academic year, students can now enroll in:

  • LLM Law — for postgraduate specialization in advanced legal studies
  • BSc Cyber Security — focusing on digital safety, risk management, and cyber defense
  • BSc Software Engineering — emphasizing software design, systems architecture, coding, and application testing
