Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Set to Host 10th-15th Combined Convocation Ceremonies in May 2025

Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) is gearing up to host its landmark 10th to 15th combined convocation ceremonies, a momentous event that will bring together graduates from 2019 to 2024. Scheduled for the week of May 20 to May 24, 2025, this exciting week will not only celebrate academic achievements but also mark the 25th anniversary of the university’s establishment.
A Week of Celebrations: Events and Activities
The convocation ceremonies will be held in multiple stages, each offering an exciting array of activities for graduates, alumni, faculty, and guests. From engaging pre-convocation events to the official award of degrees, here’s what you can expect:
Pre-Convocation and Jubilee Activities
The celebrations begin ahead of the convocation week with special pre-events and a Jubilee celebration:
- Friday, 16 May 2025
- Press Meeting with the Vice-Chancellor at 9:30 a.m.
- Facility Visit at 12:00 noon
- Saturday, 17 May 2025
- Road Walk for the Silver Jubilee at 7:00 a.m.

Jubilee and Convocation Events
Starting on Tuesday, 20 May 2025, the university will host a variety of activities that honor its history and progress:
- Back to Our Roots & Homecoming: Interdenominational church service at 11:00 a.m. (Venue: ETF Auditorium, Uli Campus)
- Wednesday, 21 May 2025
- Founders and Heritage Day: Book Launch at TETFund Auditorium, Igbariam Campus
- Alumni Dinner at 7:00 p.m. (Venue to be confirmed)
- Thursday, 22 May 2025
- Convocation Lecture & Documentary on COOU History at 11:00 a.m. (Venue: ETF Auditorium, Igbariam Campus)
- Friday, 23 May 2025
- Award of First Degrees at 11:00 a.m. (Venue: Convocation Arena, Igbariam Campus)
- Saturday, 24 May 2025
- Award of Higher Degrees including PGD, MSc, PhD, and Honorary Awards at 11:00 a.m. (Venue: Convocation Arena, Igbariam Campus)
Fees for Degree Categories
Graduates are required to pay the following fees to cover the convocation materials:
- First Degree: ₦25,000
- MSc & PGD: ₦70,000
- PhD: ₦120,000
These fees include:
- Convocation brochure
- Academic gown
- Certificate scroll
- COOU T-shirt or jacket
- COOU bag
- COOU tie or scarf
- COOU lapel pin
How to Pay for Your Convocation Fees
Follow these steps to pay your fees and prepare for the convocation:
- Visit the official COOU portal for convocation payment.
- Click on the “Sundry” button and choose your payment type from the drop-down menu.
- Generate an invoice and pay online or at any bank.
- Print the Remita receipt and present it before collecting materials.
Important Guidelines for Graduands
All graduands must adhere to the following rules:
- Payment of Fees: Ensure all fees are paid before clearance.
- Dress Code: Graduands must appear in formal attire.
- Men: Suit, shirt, tie
- Women: Suit, blouse, skirt, or gown
- Full national dress is also allowed.
Gown Collection and Return
- Undergraduates: Collect gowns from faculties.
- Postgraduates: Collect gowns from the Postgraduate School, Igbariam Campus.
- Collection starts on Friday, 2 May 2025.
- Return of Gowns: All rented gowns must be returned by Friday, 30 May 2025. Late returns will incur a penalty of ₦50,000.
Security Guidelines for the Convocation
- No bags or luggage will be allowed inside the convocation arena.
- Vehicles must be parked in designated areas; security personnel will direct traffic.
- Hawking and trading are strictly prohibited around the venue.
