BUK Extends Christmas and New Year Break as Mid-Semester Holiday Merges Into One Long Rest Period
Bayero University students will now enjoy a longer holiday season as management revises the second-semester academic calendar.
Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has officially announced a major adjustment to its second-semester schedule, merging the previously planned mid-semester break with the upcoming Christmas and New Year holiday.
The decision extends the festive break and shifts students’ resumption date by one week.
Why the Change Matters
In its notice circulated to the university community, BUK management confirmed that the mid-semester break will no longer stand independently. Instead, it has been combined with the Christmas and New Year holiday to give students a single stretch of uninterrupted rest.
Under the updated calendar, the holiday begins on 22 December 2025, with students now set to return on 10 January 2026 — a notable shift from the earlier resumption date of 3 January 2026.
Revised Key Dates for BUK Students
Students are expected to take note of the following confirmed changes:
- Mid-semester break: Cancelled and merged with the Christmas/New Year holiday
- Start of break: 22 December 2025
- Original resumption date: 3 January 2026
- New resumption date: 10 January 2026
The university explained that the adjustment ensures students still receive the same total rest days planned for the semester, only now delivered in a single extended period.
What Students Should Do Next
To avoid disruptions to academic activities after the break, students are advised to:
- Update their personal calendars with the new resumption date
- Make travel and family-visit plans based on the new schedule of 10 January 2026
- Regularly follow official BUK communication channels for any further updates tied to the semester timetable
According to the institution, staying informed will enable a smooth return to lectures, assessments, and other academic responsibilities in January.
BUK’s Message to Students
BUK Management says the revised schedule is designed to help students rest sufficiently while maintaining the academic calendar’s integrity. The institution urges all students to plan wisely for both the holiday and their return to campus.
