Ban Ki-moon Foundation Launches 2026 Global Citizen Scholarship Program – Apply by March 4

The Ban Ki-moon Foundation has officially opened applications for its Global Citizen Scholarship Program 2026, inviting young changemakers from selected countries to take action for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Interested applicants must submit their entries by 4 March 2026.

Fully Virtual, 8–9 Month Program

This year marks the 9th round of the program. The scholarship runs entirely online, allowing participants to propose and implement local changemaker projects aligned with one or more SDGs. Scholars will also participate in:

  • A two-week summer school training at Management Center Innsbruck (MCI) University
  • Peer-to-peer mentoring and networking with global experts
  • Expert-led trainings and workshops to enhance skills in sustainable development and entrepreneurship

Selected scholars will receive seed funding of 500 EUR to support their projects upon approval, and a certificate of achievement signed by H.E. Ban Ki-moon and H.E. Dr Heinz Fischer.

Who Can Apply

The scholarship targets 16 young leaders, aged 20 to 35, from eligible countries across Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. Countries include:

Africa: Cameroon, Ethiopia, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe
Middle East: Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE
South Asia: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka
Southeast Asia: Cambodia, Laos, Philippines, Vietnam

Applicants must hold citizenship from these countries, demonstrate dedication to SDGs, and possess at least a B2 level in English. A completed Master’s degree is required, though exceptional candidates with one year of Master’s studies may be considered.

Application Requirements

Applicants are required to provide personal and professional details, including:

  • Personal details: Name, contact, date of birth, address, citizenship, gender, education, language proficiency, short profile
  • Professional details: Academic titles, organization, role
  • Changemaker project info: Project title, targeted SDGs, implementation process

At the final stage, candidates must upload:

  • Motivational statement
  • Portrait photo (JPEG or PNG)
  • 60-second introduction video (MP4 or MOV)
  • CV
  • Project outline
