Al-Hikmah University Opens Applications for Bursar Position as Current Term Ends March 2026
Al-Hikmah University has announced the opening of applications for the position of Bursar, following the scheduled end of the current Bursar’s tenure on 15 March 2026.
The vacancy, approved by the University Council, is in line with the Al-Hikmah University Law of 2001 (as amended). The Council is inviting qualified, experienced, and reputable finance professionals to apply for the top financial leadership role in the institution.
About Al-Hikmah University
Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, received approval from the Federal Government of Nigeria in January 2005. It is a private, faith-based university built on strong Islamic values, with a clear focus on academic excellence and moral discipline.
The university currently runs undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and has a student population of about 13,000 across multiple faculties and colleges.

Role of the Bursar
The Bursar is the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Al-Hikmah University and reports directly to the University Council and the Vice-Chancellor.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Lead strategies to increase internally generated revenue
- Plan, manage, and supervise the university’s financial system
- Ensure proper control and accountability of funds and records
- Provide expert financial advice on all university transactions
- Carry out duties assigned by the Council or Vice-Chancellor
- Demonstrate strong Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills
Required Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A good first degree in Accounting or a related discipline from a recognised institution
- Professional accounting qualification such as ICAN, ACA, ACCA, ACMA, or CPA
- A relevant Master’s degree
- Membership of a recognised professional accounting body
- Minimum of 12 years’ post-qualification experience
- At least eight years’ experience in a university environment
- Five years or more in a senior management position
- Service as Deputy Bursar for not less than three years
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Proven integrity, leadership ability, and strong character
- Must not be older than 48 years at the point of resumption
Terms of Appointment
The Bursar will be appointed for a single term of five years. Salary and benefits will be in line with what is obtainable in similar Nigerian universities, as determined by the Governing Council.
