Akwa Ibom Poly Introduces New Requirement for NYSC-Bound Students
Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic has announced a new directive affecting Prospective Corps Members and HND II students who have completed and defended their projects. The institution says the update is part of efforts to properly document students’ academic projects and streamline the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilisation process.
According to the notice, all affected students must now complete project registration with the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) as a compulsory step before NYSC clearance can be granted.
What Is NERD Registration and Why It Matters
NERD, which stands for Nigeria Education Repository and Databank, is a national database used to store and verify students’ academic project records. Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic explained that:
- Every Prospective Corps Member and HND II student who has defended their project must register their project with NERD.
- Successful registration enables students to process their NERD clearance.
- NERD clearance is now mandatory for access to the NYSC Orientation Camp.
In clear terms, students who fail to complete this registration risk delays or outright stoppage of their NYSC mobilisation.
Registration Date Announced
The Polytechnic has fixed Tuesday, 6 January 2026, as the official start date for NERD project registration. Students are strongly advised to begin the process early to avoid last-minute complications during clearance and mobilisation.
School authorities warned that waiting until the deadline could lead to unnecessary delays, especially as NYSC documentation typically involves multiple verification stages.
Polytechnic Urges Full Compliance
Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic has urged all affected students to strictly comply with the directive within the stated time frame. The institution emphasized that the requirement applies to all HND II students and Prospective Corps Members who have completed and defended their projects, without exception.
Students are advised to stay alert for further updates from the Polytechnic and ensure all clearance steps are completed promptly.
Bottom line:
If you are an HND II student or Prospective Corps Member at Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, NERD registration is no longer optional. Completing it early could be the difference between a smooth NYSC mobilisation and a frustrating delay.
