AKSU expands academic offerings with 16 newly approved programmes

National Universities Commission has approved 16 new undergraduate programmes for Akwa Ibom State University, clearing the way for their rollout in the 2025/2026 academic session.

The approval, announced in an official university press release, introduces a wide range of degree options spanning health sciences, engineering, the built environment, arts, and social sciences. The notice, addressed to prospective candidates and the general public, confirms that applications are already open for the newly accredited courses.

The expansion is expected to widen access to specialized training and strengthen the university’s academic portfolio ahead of the next admission cycle.

According to the university, the following 16 programmes have received accreditation:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D)
  • B.A. Music
  • B.Sc. Architecture
  • B.Sc. Urban and Regional Planning
  • B.Sc. Estate Management
  • B.Sc. Surveying and Geoinformatics
  • B.Sc. Building
  • B.Sc. Quantity Surveying
  • B.Sc. Fine and Applied Arts
  • B.Sc. Local Government and Development Studies
  • B.Sc. Project Management
  • B.Sc. Peace and Conflict Resolution
  • B.Ed. Guidance and Counselling
  • B.Eng. Automotive Engineering
  • B.Eng. Computer Engineering
  • B.Eng. Telecommunications Engineering

Several of the new additions focus on built-environment disciplines such as Architecture and Quantity Surveying, while the engineering portfolio has been expanded to include Automotive, Computer, and Telecommunications Engineering. The inclusion of Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D) and B.A. Music also marks a significant diversification of AKSU’s programme offerings.

Admission now open for 2025/2026 session

The university confirmed that admissions are open for the 2025/2026 academic session, and interested candidates can apply directly to any of the newly approved programmes.

This development positions AKSU as one of the institutions broadening its curriculum in response to evolving academic and industry demands in Nigeria.
