ABU Sets N3,000–N6,000 Gown Fees, Releases Guidelines for 2026 Convocation Gown Collection
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has issued an official notice to all graduating students and academic units on the collection and return of academic gowns ahead of its 2026 convocation ceremony.
The directive, released by the Directorate of Academic Affairs, outlines payment requirements, collection procedures, and a strict return deadline for all convocation gowns.
Convocation Dates Confirmed
According to the university, the 2026 convocation will hold on:
- Friday, 30 January 2026
- Saturday, 31 January 2026
These ceremonies will cover both undergraduate and postgraduate graduands.
Who Collects the Gowns?
ABU has directed that individual students will not collect gowns personally.
Instead, all academic units — including the Postgraduate College and the College of Medical Sciences — must send their Administrative Secretaries or Faculty Officers to the Directorate of Academic Affairs to collect gowns on behalf of their graduating students.
The university expects this centralized method to ensure proper documentation and accountability.
Gown Fees (Non-Refundable)
All graduands must pay the approved gown fee before collection:
- Undergraduates: ₦3,000
- Postgraduates: ₦6,000
The fee is strictly non-refundable.
Students are advised to follow the official payment procedure attached to the university memo and keep their payment receipts carefully.
Deadline for Gown Return
ABU stressed that all academic gowns must be:
- Returned in good condition,
- Accompanied by the original payment receipt, and
- Submitted no later than Friday, 20 February 2026.
Failure to meet this deadline may attract sanctions as determined by the university.
Official Endorsement
The memo was signed by Umar Kasinu, Ag. Director, Directorate of Academic Affairs, and copied to:
- The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed
- The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration)
The university urged all graduating students and faculty officers to comply fully with the guidelines to ensure a smooth and orderly convocation exercise.
