AAU Ekpoma Postpones Students’ Resumption, Orders Hostel Vacate as Renovation Works Continue
Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has announced a sudden postponement of students’ resumption and the start of academic activities, citing ongoing renovation works across key student facilities.
The decision was made public in a press release dated Friday, January 9, 2026, and was approved by the University Management on behalf of the Senate under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mrs. Eunice Eboisenhien Omonzejie.
According to the university, the move is aimed at creating a safer and more conducive learning environment for students once academic activities resume.
Why AAU Postponed Resumption
In the statement, AAU explained that the postponement became necessary to allow the university to complete renovation works on student structures and facilities.
The management stressed that the adjustment is temporary and directly connected to improving the quality of the teaching and learning environment on campus.
“The ongoing renovation works are essential to ensure better facilities for students and staff,” the statement noted.
Hostel Residents Ordered to Vacate Immediately
As part of the directive, all students currently staying in university hostels have been instructed to vacate immediately.
AAU said this step is required so that renovation works can continue without disruption. Students affected are expected to comply while awaiting the announcement of a new resumption date.
The university added that a fresh resumption date will be communicated in due course.
Inaugural Lecture and Exams Affected
The postponement has also affected major academic activities.
The 140th Inaugural Lecture, earlier scheduled for Thursday, January 15, 2026, has now been postponed.
In addition, ongoing examinations have been disrupted by the development. AAU confirmed that new dates for the continuation and completion of the exams, as well as the rescheduled inaugural lecture, will be announced later.
No replacement dates were provided in the press release.
Message to Students, Parents and Guardians
AAU thanked students, parents and guardians for their understanding and cooperation during the unexpected adjustment.
The university urged students to pay attention to official announcements and to strictly follow the new resumption and examination schedules once they are released.
Parents and guardians were also advised to ensure their wards are properly informed and comply with the revised arrangements.
