Nigerian Academy of Engineering Launches 2025/2026 National Innovation Competition

The Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAEng) has officially announced the call for entries for the third edition of its National Innovation Competition, inviting engineers, scientists, and technologists nationwide to present creative solutions to real national challenges.

This year’s competition focuses on original engineering and scientific innovations that demonstrate creativity, research depth, and practical design aimed at driving Nigeria’s socio-economic transformation.


A Platform for Problem-Solving Through Engineering

According to NAEng, the initiative seeks groundbreaking ideas across diverse sectors including:

  • ICT and Telecommunications
  • Agriculture and Food Processing
  • Energy and Renewables
  • Infrastructure Development
  • Health and Waste Management
  • Transportation and Mining
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics
  • Climate Change and Manufacturing

“These innovations must not only show technical excellence but also address issues that impact communities and national growth,” the Academy stated.

Competition Format: From Concept to Reality

Stage 1 – Concept Note Submission
Participants are required to submit a Concept Note between Monday, October 20, and Friday, December 19, 2025. Each entry must include:

  • A summary of the innovation and the problem it addresses
  • The social and economic impact of the idea
  • Engineering methods and processes applied
  • The prototype’s current development stage
  • Sketches, diagrams, or photos illustrating the concept
  • Profiles of contributors or collaborating organizations

All Concept Notes must be in PDF format, not exceeding 20 A4 pages. Entries will be evaluated based on originality, relevance, engineering content, and development potential. Only shortlisted participants will progress to Stage 2.

Stage 2 – Full Proposal Submission
Selected applicants will proceed to develop full proposals between Thursday, January 15 and Friday, March 13, 2026. Final winners will be announced in June 2026.

Eligibility: Who Can Apply

The competition is open to all Nigerians, except Fellows of the Academy. Eligible participants include:

  • Engineers, scientists, technologists, and technicians
  • Individuals or collaborative teams
  • Self-nominated or third-party-nominated innovators

Entries must demonstrate strong engineering content and clearly address relevant national challenges. Submissions should be sent to [email protected] on or before Friday, December 19, 2025.

Awards and Recognition

Winning innovations will receive:

  • Cash prizes
  • Public recognition and plaques
  • Certificates of achievement
  • Exposure to investors interested in scaling viable projects

The Academy emphasizes that the competition aims to nurture practical solutions that enhance communities and advance engineering excellence in Nigeria.
