JAMB Extends 2025 Admission Deadline for Public Universities to November 17
In a major development for Nigeria’s higher education sector, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially extended the deadline for public universities to complete their 2025 admission processes.
The announcement follows the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on July 18, 2025, under the chairmanship of the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (CON).
Originally, JAMB had fixed October 31, 2025, as the deadline for all public universities to conclude their admissions. However, the date has now been extended to Monday, November 17, 2025, to allow universities more time to process admissions and ensure that no qualified candidate is left behind.
Why JAMB Extended the Admission Deadline
JAMB’s decision to grant this extension was influenced by two major factors:
- Appeal by the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU):
The association requested additional time after a court order temporarily halted the 2025/2026 admission list. The directive, which was only lifted on October 28, 2025, caused disruptions in the admission timelines of several universities across the country. - Newly Accredited Programmes by the NUC:
On October 29, 2025, the National Universities Commission (NUC) announced 229 newly accredited academic programmes across 37 universities. These fresh courses are still undergoing admission processing, prompting JAMB to provide extra time for fair inclusion in the national admission framework.
JAMB Reaffirms Commitment to Transparent and Inclusive Admissions
JAMB commended public universities that worked tirelessly to meet the earlier deadline, stressing that the extension is designed to promote fairness, inclusivity, and transparency in Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
According to the board, the new closing date of November 17, 2025, is final. All public universities must ensure that their admission lists are concluded before the deadline.
The examination body reaffirmed its dedication to a credible and orderly admission process that aligns with the national education policy while respecting the autonomy of universities in their selection processes.
Closing Note
JAMB emphasized that its priority remains ensuring equal opportunity for all qualified candidates. With the extension, universities are expected to finalize their admissions swiftly, guaranteeing that successful candidates are admitted in time for the 2025 academic session to commence without delay.
This move not only reflects JAMB’s commitment to fairness and academic integrity but also reinforces confidence in Nigeria’s higher education admission system.
