University of Port Harcourt Opens 2025/2026 Postgraduate Admission Portal

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has officially opened its postgraduate admission for the 2025/2026 academic session, inviting applications from qualified candidates into its wide range of postgraduate programmes.

In this guide, you’ll find all the essential details about available programmes, entry requirements, duration of study, and a step-by-step process on how to apply successfully.


General Admission Requirements for UNIPORT Postgraduate Programmes

O’Level Requirements

All applicants must possess credit passes in English Language and Mathematics.
However, candidates who obtained their O’Level results before 2012 and lack credit in Mathematics may still apply to certain faculties, including:

  • Faculty of Humanities
  • Faculty of Education
  • Faculty of Social Sciences (except the Department of Economics)

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Programmes

  • Candidates must possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with Second Class Honours or Third Class.
  • HND holders must have a minimum of Upper Credit.
  • Applicants for the Postgraduate Diploma in Chemistry (PGDC) are not eligible if they hold a Third Class degree.

Master’s Degree Programmes

To qualify for a Master’s degree:

  • Candidates must hold a minimum of Second Class Lower Division in a relevant field from UNIPORT or any recognised university.
  • For the Master’s in Education, holders of degrees in other disciplines must possess a PGDE (Postgraduate Diploma in Education) with Upper Credit.
  • MBA applicants are expected to have a strong quantitative background.
  • Candidates with a PGD must have a CGPA of 3.50 or higher to qualify for the Master’s level.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programmes

Applicants for the Ph.D. programmes must:

  • Hold a Master’s Degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 or its equivalent.
  • Successfully pass the qualifying examination and an oral interview.
  • Participate in required coursework as part of the doctoral process.

MD/MS Programmes

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Candidates must be graduates of Medicine (MBBS) from UNIPORT for at least five years or be confirmed academic staff of the university.
  • Additionally, applicants must hold a recognised fellowship qualification or an M.Sc. Degree in a related field.

Duration of UNIPORT Postgraduate Programmes

  • PGDE: Full-time (12–24 months); Sandwich (two long vacations of 8 weeks each)
  • MBA: Full-time (24–36 months); Part-time (36–48 months)
  • MD/MS: Minimum of 24 months
  • Ph.D.: Full-time (24–60 months); Part-time (36–84 months)
  • DBA: Full-time (3–5 years); Part-time (5–7 years)

How to Apply for UNIPORT Postgraduate Admission 2025/2026

  1. Application Fee:
    Pay a non-refundable ₦15,000 fee at any of the following banks:
    • U&C Microfinance Bank
    • UBA
    • Fidelity Bank
    • Access Bank
    • EcoBank
    • First Bank
    • Sterling Bank
  2. Prospectus Fee:
    An additional ₦15,000 is payable to U&C Microfinance Bank Ltd, Choba
    (Account Number: 1100236739) for the prospectus.
  3. Online Registration:
    After payment, download the application form via the UNIPORT School of Graduate Studies portal.
  4. Important Notice:
    Payment of the form fee does not guarantee admission and is non-refundable.

Required Documents for Submission

Applicants must attach two copies each of the following documents to their completed forms:

  • Degree or Postgraduate Diploma Certificate
  • NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate
  • O’Level Certificate
  • Birth Certificate or Age Declaration
  • Marriage Certificate or Change of Name (if applicable)
  • Local Government Identification Letter
  • Receipts of all payments

All completed forms and documents should be submitted to the Documentation Unit, School of Graduate Studies, UNIPORT.

Application Closing Date

The sale and submission of all completed postgraduate application forms will close on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
