WAEC Reschedules 2024 WASSCE to April 20 – June 15

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released updated dates for the conduct of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Nigeria.

According to the new timetable, the examination will now take place from April 20 to June 15, 2024, for school candidates. The WASSCE for private candidates will be held from July 8 to August 19, 2024.

WAEC stated that the shift in dates from the previously announced schedule was due to extensive consultations with the government, proprietors of schools, and other stakeholders. The change is aimed at accommodating differing school calendars and ensuring adequate preparation time.

All subjects will maintain their assigned dates and periods on the new timetable except for some papers which have been rescheduled to new dates within the overall duration.

Both school principals and candidates have been advised to take note of the revised timetable and adhere strictly to the new examination schedule and guidelines to avoid issues.

The head of the Nigeria national office of WAEC appealed for understanding from all concerned parties, citing the council’s commitment to prioritizing the interests of candidates while upholding integrity.

He also assured that adequate logistics and security arrangements are being put in place at all examination centers to ensure a smooth and malpractice-free WASSCE in 2024.

The WASSCE is a critically important secondary school leaving certificate examination undertaken by students across the West African region annually. Successful performance is a core requirement for admission into tertiary institutions.

Candidates and relevant stakeholders are urged to visit WAEC’s website or offices nationwide for any updates and clarifications regarding the 2024 WASSCE.
