2024 UTME Exam Held Across Nigeria
The 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) took place from April 19th to April 29th across approved computer-based test centres in Nigeria.
Hundreds of thousands of candidates wrote the crucial exam which determines admissions into various tertiary institutions in the country. JAMB had urged all registered candidates to print their examination slips well ahead of time and arrive at their assigned centers at least 30 minutes before their scheduled time.
The examination body deployed strict measures to curb examination malpractice, including biometric verification of candidates and monitoring by closed-circuit television cameras at the centers. Candidates also underwent screening using metal detectors before being allowed into the examination halls.
There were some reports of technical glitches at a few centres which led to delays in starting the examinations. However, JAMB officials worked to quickly resolve the issues and ensure smooth writing by the affected candidates.
Results for the 2024 UTME are expected to be released by the middle of May after which post-UTME screening exercises will be conducted by various institutions. Successful candidates will then be considered for admission into their preferred programs based on their composite scores and institutions’ criteria.
The UTME remains the biggest examination organized by any agency in Nigeria and a key determinant of educational opportunities for Nigerian youth annually. Candidates await their all-important 2024 UTME scores with bated breath.
