Federal University Dutse Opens Application for Next Vice-Chancellor Ahead of February 2026
The countdown has begun. By February 10, 2026, the Vice-Chancellor’s seat at the Federal University Dutse (FUD) will officially be vacant, and the Governing Council has opened the search for a new leader to steer the institution into its next phase of growth.
Founded in 2011 as one of Nigeria’s nine newly established federal universities, FUD has grown into an academic hub with eleven faculties, a College of Medicine and Allied Medical Sciences, a School of Postgraduate Studies, and over 20,000 students. Today, it stands as one of Jigawa State’s biggest intellectual communities.
Why This Role Matters
The Vice-Chancellor is more than just a figurehead. As the chief academic and administrative officer, the VC is responsible for:
- Upholding academic excellence.
- Managing financial and human resources.
- Maintaining peace, discipline, and fairness on campus.
- Representing the university locally and globally.
- Serving as Chair of the Senate and member of the Governing Council.
This is the person who sets the pace for the university’s future.
Who Can Apply?
The Governing Council is looking for a seasoned academic with proven leadership qualities. Applicants must:
- Be a recognized scholar with a PhD and at least five years as a Professor.
- Have 15 years of experience in university-level teaching, research, and administration.
- Demonstrate ability to attract research grants and funding.
- Show evidence of strong interpersonal and community relations.
- Be ICT-proficient and an excellent communicator.
- Possess integrity, sound judgment, and good health.
- Be under 65 years old at the time of assumption of duty.
Terms of Appointment
- Tenure: A single, non-renewable term of five years.
- Conditions of Service: Same as those applicable to Vice-Chancellors in Nigerian federal universities.
