UNICAL Postgraduate Admissions 2024/2025 Now Open
The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has officially opened its portal for 2024–2025 postgraduate admissions. Whether you’re aiming for a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master’s, or PhD, now is your chance to join one of Nigeria’s top-tier graduate schools.

Entry Requirements at a Glance
Before applying, ensure you meet the following academic criteria:
PGD (Postgraduate Diploma)
- A minimum CGPA of 1.25 on a 5-point scale.
Master’s Programmes
- A minimum CGPA of 2.5 on a 4-point scale or 3.0 on a 5-point scale.
PhD Programmes
- A minimum CGPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale or 3.5 on a 5-point scale.
- A research proposal/summary (max 500 words) is required.
Note: All programmes include coursework.
Special Focus: Sustainable Development Studies
UNICAL places strong emphasis on sustainability and global impact. It offers two dedicated degrees in this critical field:
Master’s in Sustainable Development Studies
Requirements:
- A BSc, B.Ed, or equivalent with CGPA of 2.75 or 3.0
- At least five O-Level credits including English, Maths, and three relevant subjects (max 2 sittings)
PhD in Sustainable Development Studies
Requirements:
- A Master’s degree in related fields like Environmental Science, Sociology, Economics, or Public Administration with CGPA of 2.75 or 3.0
- Same O-level requirements as above
Areas of Specialisation Include:
- Climate Change & Renewable Energy
- Urban Sustainability
- Biodiversity Conservation
- Environmental Education
- Disaster Risk Management & Humanitarian Aid
How to Apply
Here’s a step-by-step guide for a smooth application process:
- Visit the UNICAL postgraduate portal.
- Download the prospectus for detailed course information
- Pay a non-refundable ₦40,000 fee via e-Transact at any Nigerian bank
- Collect a payment receipt with a unique PIN
- Return to the portal and log in using your PIN and phone number
- Complete and submit your application form online
