The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF) is once again offering scholarships to support promising students from Northern Nigeria. Each year, the Foundation awards 200 scholarships to students studying science and technology courses at public universities and polytechnics. This initiative is designed to promote educational advancement in Northern Nigeria and nurture future leaders in these crucial fields.

Scholarship Details

The SABMF scholarship provides funding for one academic session. However, students may renew their scholarships for subsequent years based on academic performance. University students need to maintain a minimum CGPA of Second Class Lower Division, while polytechnic students must achieve an Upper Credit.

Who is Eligible?

To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be admitted to 100 level (UTME) or 200 level (Direct Entry) for a degree or HND program in the 2023/2024 academic session.
  • Be enrolled in a science or technology course at a public university or polytechnic.
  • Meet the institution’s full-time student requirements.
  • Have at least five O’Level credits, including English and Mathematics, obtained in no more than two sittings.
  • Be an indigene of any Northern Nigerian state or the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Proof of state of origin is required.
  • Be 25 years old or younger at the time of admission.
  • Candidates must note that meeting the eligibility requirements does not guarantee selection. The scholarship will be awarded based on a ranking system.

How to Apply

To apply for the SABMF scholarship, candidates must send the required documents via email to [email protected].
The documents to include are:

  • JAMB result slip
  • Admission letters from both JAMB and your institution
  • WAEC or NECO certificate/results
  • Birth certificate from the National Population Commission (NPC)
  • Certificate of State of Origin
  • School fee payment receipt
  • Latest semester results
  • Valid student ID card
  • Passport photographs (3 copies, 2×2 inches)
  • Reference letter from a community leader
  • Parent/Guardian Attestation Letter
  • Personal contact information (email, phone number)
  • Next of kin contact details

  • Application Deadline: February 25, 2025

Screening Process

Once applications are submitted, shortlisted candidates will be invited for a screening exercise. The screening requires presenting the original copies of all submitted documents, including:

  • Passport photographs
  • State of Origin certificate
  • Birth certificate
  • School-related documents (e.g. fee payment receipts, admission letters)
  • Valid student ID
  • Personal and next of kin contact information

General Instructions

  • Applications must be submitted online.
  • Incomplete applications will not be processed.
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for the screening.
  • Successful candidates will be announced in a national newspaper and on the Foundation’s website.
  • Students already receiving funding from other scholarship schemes are not eligible.
