UNILAG Announces Dates and Details for 55th Convocation Ceremonies for 2023/2024 Graduating Class
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has officially revealed the dates and key details for the highly anticipated 55th Convocation Ceremonies, celebrating the achievements of the 2023/2024 graduating class. The events, which mark a significant milestone for thousands of students, will kick off on January 8, 2025, with a pre-convocation press conference.
Key Dates and Events
The convocation ceremonies will begin in earnest on Monday, January 13, 2025, with a series of exhibitions, lectures, and the official awarding of degrees. Graduates and their families are encouraged to stay tuned for a detailed schedule, which will be shared soon.
Payment and Academic Outfit Information for Graduates
All graduating students are required to make payments for the convocation ceremonies. These payments are included in the school fees, but those yet to make payment should log into their student portal to check the exact amount due.
Graduating students must also pay for academic outfits (gowns). Options to either hire or purchase gowns are available, with fees as follows:
- First Degree / Master’s / PGD / MPhil:
Purchase: ₦40,000 | Hire: ₦15,000 - Doctorate Degree (PhD):
Purchase Only: ₦65,000
Payments should be made through the Remita platform using the payment advice generated from the student portal. The payment window will open on December 12, 2024, and close on December 31, 2024. Graduating students can begin collecting their academic outfits on December 30, 2024.
Where to Collect Academic Outfits
Graduating students should pick up their gowns and the official Order of Proceedings from the following centres:
- College of Medicine
- School of Postgraduate Studies
- Distance Learning Institute (DLI)
- University of Lagos Business School (ULBS)
A valid online receipt is required for gown collection.
Payment Receipt Submission
Graduates must send their payment receipts to the appropriate faculty email addresses for verification. The specific emails for each faculty are listed below:

Invitations and Attendance
Graduates must download and print their e-invitation cards and Access Codes from their email accounts to attend the ceremony. A link to register for attendance will be sent to students by December 30, 2024.
Please note that late arrivals will not be admitted once the ceremony has started, so it’s important to be on time.
Returning Academic Outfits and Certificate Collection
Graduating students who hire gowns must return them by Monday, February 3, 2025. Late returns will incur a fine of ₦40,000.
Certificates will be available for collection immediately after the convocation, provided all clearance steps have been completed. Any certificate not collected within one year will incur a ₦10,000 demurrage fee, with additional fees for each subsequent year.
