MAUTECH Unveils Three New Faculties to Boost Academic Growth and Innovation

The Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH) in Yola has announced the creation of three new faculties as part of its ongoing commitment to expand academic offerings and provide more opportunities for students. This move is set to further elevate the university’s standing as a leader in higher education.

Expanding Academic Horizons

The university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Umar, approved the establishment of these new faculties to diversify academic programs and meet the evolving demands of both students and industries. The new faculties are:

  • Faculty of Communication
  • Faculty of Arts
  • Faculty of Computing

Each of these faculties will offer specialized degree programs designed to align with current global trends and professional needs. A total of 18 new degree programs will be introduced across these faculties.

New Degree Programs for a Changing World

  • Faculty of Communication: This faculty will offer programs such as Mass Communication, Broadcasting, Strategic Communication, Public Relations, Advertising, and Film and Multimedia Studies. These courses are designed to prepare students for careers in media, digital communication, and public relations, all of which are essential in today’s information-driven society.
  • Faculty of Arts: The Faculty of Arts will cover programs in English Language, Language and Linguistics, Arabic Studies, Religious Studies, and Language and Communication Arts. These programs aim to equip students with critical thinking, communication, and cultural awareness skills.
  • Faculty of Computing: Focused on the future of technology, the Faculty of Computing will offer degrees in fields such as Cybersecurity, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence. These areas are in high demand globally and will help students gain expertise in rapidly growing sectors of the tech industry.

Enhancing Infrastructure and Research Opportunities

In addition to expanding academic programs, MAUTECH has secured significant investments in infrastructure and research development. The university has partnered with the World Bank and the Federal Government of Nigeria to fund key initiatives aimed at boosting both academic and research capabilities.

  • World Bank Intervention: MAUTECH will host a state-of-the-art Artificial Insemination Centre (AIC), funded by the World Bank. This center will focus on advancing animal husbandry, improving livestock species, and enhancing the production of meat and milk in Nigeria. The establishment of this center is a major step toward supporting agricultural research and improving food security in the region.
  • Federal Government Support: In response to the university’s growing needs, the Federal Ministry of Water Resources has approved the installation of a large industrial borehole with a 40,000-litre storage capacity. This project will ensure a reliable water supply to support both academic activities and the campus community.

A Vision for the Future

The establishment of these new faculties and the ongoing infrastructure improvements are part of MAUTECH’s broader vision to foster academic excellence and innovation. The university is focused on preparing students for the challenges of tomorrow, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to thrive in their chosen fields.

Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Ibrahim Umar, MAUTECH is making significant strides toward becoming a top-tier institution that not only offers cutting-edge academic programs but also supports research and community development.

With these new developments, MAUTECH is poised to continue its legacy of providing high-quality education that meets the needs of students and society.

What This Means for Students

For current and prospective students, these changes represent a wealth of new opportunities to pursue careers in high-demand fields. Whether you’re interested in media, technology, or the humanities, MAUTECH’s expanded faculties are designed to cater to a wide range of academic interests and career aspirations.
