Lagos State University Suspends Admissions to Entrepreneurship Programme for 2024/2025 Academic Session

LASU to Revamp Comprehensive Entrepreneurship Programme, Shifting Focus to Career-Ready Graduates

Lagos State University (LASU) has announced the suspension of admissions into its Comprehensive Entrepreneurship Programme (CEP) for full-time regular students for the upcoming 2024/2025 academic session. This move, made following an extensive meeting of the University Senate on Friday, 15 November 2024, is part of the institution’s ongoing efforts to update and improve its academic offerings.

Why the Suspension?

The suspension comes as part of LASU’s decision to reorganize the Comprehensive Entrepreneurship Programme to make it more relevant to the changing job market. According to university officials, the curriculum will undergo significant updates to equip students with the skills and knowledge that better align with industry demands and global practices.

The changes aim to help students enhance their employability and career prospects by offering more practical and up-to-date entrepreneurial training that matches what employers are looking for in today’s fast-evolving professional landscape.

What Does This Mean for New Students?

For candidates admitted to LASU for the 2024/2025 academic session, those who were previously set to join the Comprehensive Entrepreneurship Programme (Stream 2) will now be placed in the regular Full-Time Degree Programme (Stream 1). This means:

  • New students will no longer be enrolled in the Entrepreneurship stream.
  • They will only pay fees associated with the regular Full-Time Degree Programme (Stream 1).

The university assures these new students that their academic experience will remain rigorous and valuable, even without the Entrepreneurship component in the initial phase of their studies.

What About Returning Students?

For students already enrolled in the Comprehensive Entrepreneurship Programme (Stream 2), the changes will not affect them. Students in the 200, 300, 400, and 500 levels will continue with the programme until they graduate, allowing them to complete their studies as originally planned.

A Commitment to Quality Education

LASU’s decision reflects a broader commitment to ensuring that its students are well-prepared for the workforce. By revamping the CEP, the university aims to provide more tailored, industry-focused education that enhances students’ career prospects and aligns better with global trends.

Key Takeaways for Stakeholders:

  • New students will be placed in the Full-Time Degree Programme (Stream 1) without the Entrepreneurship stream.
  • Returning students in the Entrepreneurship programme will continue their studies until graduation.
  • The decision is part of LASU’s efforts to improve its academic offerings and better prepare students for a competitive job market.

LASU is urging all stakeholders, including prospective students, parents, and faculty, to take note of these updates and plan accordingly. The university remains dedicated to providing high-quality education that prepares students for the challenges and opportunities of the modern workforce.
