What Does the Vice-Chancellor Role Involve?
As the highest-ranking academic and administrative officer of the university, the Vice-Chancellor will play a critical role in shaping the future of ABU. The responsibilities include:
- Leading university operations: Overseeing academic affairs, finances, student admissions, and ensuring the university’s smooth day-to-day functioning.
- Guiding the university’s vision: Advising the Council on matters of administration, policy, and strategy.
- Chairing the Senate: As the head of the Senate, the Vice-Chancellor will direct key academic decisions and policies.
- Upholding integrity: Ensuring the university’s commitment to high ethical standards and academic excellence.
Who Should Apply?
The ideal candidate must meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Academic Leadership: A minimum of 10 years as a Professor at a reputable university, with at least 15 years of experience in higher education teaching and administration.
- Reputation for Excellence: A proven record of academic achievements and respect within both national and international academic circles.
- Management Expertise: Strong skills in university administration, financial oversight, and governance.
- Integrity & Vision: A high standard of personal integrity, moral character, and the ability to inspire loyalty and respect from faculty, staff, and students.
- Health & Vitality: Applicants should be physically and mentally fit and under the age of 65.
Conditions of Service
The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary and benefits package, in line with other Vice-Chancellors in Nigerian Federal Universities, as per government regulations.
