Important Seating and Protocol Instructions
All matriculating students are required to be seated by 8:30 a.m. to ensure orderly proceedings. According to the University, the ceremony will feature the traditional academic procession by members of the University Senate, which makes early seating mandatory for all fresh students.
Photography Ban Inside the Arena
UNIPORT has placed a strict ban on photography inside the Convocation Arena throughout the duration of the ceremony. Students, parents, and invited guests are advised to comply fully with this directive.
What Fresh Students Must Do
The University outlined clear steps that all matriculating students must follow before and after the ceremony:
1. Print and Submit the Matriculation Pledge
Each student is required to print the Matriculation Pledge online. After taking the official oath during the ceremony, students must sign the pledge and return it the same day to their College Secretary or Faculty Officer.
2. Collection of Academic Gowns (Full-Time Students)
Full-time students are to collect their academic gowns from their Faculty or College starting Thursday, January 29, 2026, upon presentation of their school charges receipt.
The University emphasized that no extra payments should be made for any document or service at the faculty level.
3. Outfit Collection for Part-Time Students
Part-time students are directed to contact the College Secretary at the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) for the collection and return of their matriculation outfits. The process for pickup and return will be handled exclusively through the CCE.
4. Deadline for Gown Return
All academic gowns must be returned to the appropriate Faculty or College no later than Friday, February 20, 2026. Late returns may attract penalties or administrative issues.
Final Advisory
UNIPORT has urged all matriculating students to strictly comply with these guidelines to ensure a smooth and hitch-free matriculation exercise.
For fresh students, the matriculation ceremony marks the official beginning of their academic journey at the University of Port Harcourt — and the institution is leaving no detail to chance.
