FUTMINNA Makes NERD Clearance Mandatory for NYSC Mobilisation from 2026 Batch ‘A’
The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) has announced a major change that will affect all its graduating students planning to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
From the 2026 NYSC Batch “A” onward, FUTMINNA will only process mobilisation for graduates who present a valid clearance slip from the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD).
The directive, contained in an official circular issued by the university, follows a Federal Executive Council (FEC) policy aimed at strengthening the verification and centralisation of academic records across Nigeria.
What Has Changed — and Why It Matters
Under the new policy, NERD clearance is now compulsory for NYSC mobilisation. This means that even if a student has completed all academic requirements, mobilisation will not proceed without NERD approval.
According to FUTMINNA, the requirement supports the federal government’s effort to improve academic data integrity and ensure proper record handling nationwide.
In simple terms: no NERD clearance, no NYSC mobilisation.
Who Is Affected?
The directive applies to:
- Final-year and graduating students of FUTMINNA, and
- All FUTMINNA graduates seeking NYSC mobilisation from 2026 Batch “A” onward.
Any graduate planning to serve must now include NERD clearance as part of their NYSC preparation checklist.
How to Get NERD Clearance (Official Procedure)
FUTMINNA outlined the clearance process as follows:
- Start at the NERD onboarding portal, accessible via:
- Upload your thesis or project work (preliminary stage).
- Submitted details will be verified by the system.
- After verification, applicants receive a final upload link for their thesis or project.
- Once completed, NERD issues a clearance slip, which must be presented for NYSC mobilisation.
Documents Students Must Prepare
To avoid delays, students are advised to have the following ready:
- A functional email address
- Soft copy of thesis or project work
- Certificate, statement of result, or letter of attestation
- Recent passport photograph
- National Identification Number (NIN) slip
The circular further clarifies that where an attestation letter is requested, students should upload their certificate or statement of result.
Official Signatory and Student Advisory
The notice was signed by Abubakar Aliyu, Deputy Registrar, Students’ Affairs, and FUTMINNA’s NERD Focal Officer.
The university strongly advises students to begin the process early, warning that delays in compliance could lead to missed or postponed NYSC mobilisation.
As the circular subtly reminds students: a slow start today can become a serious delay tomorrow.
For FUTMINNA students with eyes on NYSC in 2026 and beyond, the message is clear—NERD clearance is no longer optional.
