UNICROSS NELFUND Loan Update: Approved Students Directed to Verify Payments at DICT

The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has issued an important reminder to students who applied for the Federal Government NELFUND Loan Scheme, following the approval and disbursement of some loan applications.

According to the university, while funds have already been released for several students, many beneficiaries are either unaware of their approval status or uncertain about the correct steps to validate the loan and obtain their school fee payment receipts.

What UNICROSS discovered

In an official notice, the university identified two major concerns slowing down confirmation on the school’s side:

  • Some students whose loan applications have been approved do not yet know their status.
  • Others who are aware of their approval do not know how to verify the loan or collect their official school fee payment receipts.

UNICROSS warned that this confusion could delay proper documentation and validation if students do not act promptly.

Who the notice applies to

This directive is strictly for:

  • All UNICROSS students who applied for the Federal Government NELFUND Loan Scheme, and
  • Particularly those whose loan applications have already been approved, whether or not they are aware of it.

What affected students must do immediately

The university has instructed all concerned students to personally visit the ICT Unit under the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) to:

  • Verify their NELFUND loan approval status, and
  • Collect their official school fee payment receipts.

UNICROSS emphasized that students must strictly follow this procedure, warning against shortcuts, assumptions, or relying on unverified information.

Why DICT verification is compulsory

UNICROSS explained that compliance with the DICT verification directive is the only way the university can officially validate loan disbursements.

Only after completing this process will:

  • The loan payment be formally confirmed by UNICROSS, and
  • The student’s name appear on the official list of students recognized as having paid their school fees.

The university stressed that collecting the receipt is not optional, as it forms a critical part of its internal confirmation process.

Final instruction from UNICROSS

The university concluded with a clear message:
Students who applied under the NELFUND loan scheme must visit the DICT ICT Unit, confirm their loan status, and collect their school fee payment receipts without delay.

Failure to follow this directive may affect timely validation and recognition of school fee payments.
