Federal University Gusau new Vice-Chancellor

Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) has announced the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor alongside two other key principal officers, signaling a fresh phase in the institution’s leadership and administration.

The appointments were approved by the university’s Governing Council at its 32nd regular meeting, held in Abuja between December 9 and 12, 2025. The decision follows recommendations from the Joint Senate and Council Selection Board and is expected to shape the academic and infrastructural direction of the university in the coming years.

Professor Tukur Adamu Appointed 4th Substantive Vice-Chancellor

Professor Tukur Adamu has been appointed as the 4th substantive Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Gusau. He will take over from Professor M. G. Abubakar, whose tenure is scheduled to end on February 10, 2026.

Professor Adamu previously served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Development) at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. Born on February 2, 1962, in Gurbi, Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State, he has built a distinguished academic and administrative career spanning nearly four decades.

He studied Zoology at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1986 and a Master’s degree in 1993. He later obtained a PhD in Zoology from Usmanu Danfodiyo University in 1998.

Professor Adamu began his professional career in 1987 as a Fisheries Officer with the Sokoto State Government. In 1989, he joined Usmanu Danfodiyo University as a Graduate Assistant and steadily rose through the ranks, becoming a Professor of Parasitology in 2005. Over the years, he has served in several leadership roles, including Examinations Officer, Head of Unit, Head of Department, Director of the School of Matriculation Studies, and Rector of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic in Zamfara State.

Outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor M. G. Abubakar, is widely acknowledged for strengthening academic standards, improving staff development, and enhancing campus security during his tenure.

New University Librarian Appointed

The Governing Council also approved the appointment of Dr. Shaibu Adona Sadiku as the new University Librarian.

Dr. Sadiku was born on November 19, 1969, in Oganiman, Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State. He obtained his Bachelor of Library and Information Science degree from Bayero University, Kano, in 1995. He later earned a Master of Library Science degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2011, and a PhD from the University of Ilorin in 2017.

He joined Usmanu Danfodiyo University in 2008 and rose to the rank of Principal Librarian. His experience spans several strategic positions, including Head of Processing Unit, Head of Technical Services, Head of Readers’ Services Unit, and oversight of multiple branch libraries. In 2022, he became Head of the Department of Library and Information Science.

Dr. Sadiku is a registered member of the Nigerian Library Association and the Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria.

Qs Agwari Musa Jafaru Named Director of Physical Planning, Works and Maintenance

Qs Agwari Musa Jafaru has been appointed as Director of Physical Planning, Works and Maintenance at FUGUS.

Born on September 15, 1985, in Suleja, Niger State, he is an indigene of the Federal Capital Territory. He studied Quantity Surveying at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, where he obtained a Bachelor of Technology degree in 2020. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Procurement Management at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi.

Qs Jafaru joined Sokoto State University in 2014 as a Senior Quantity Surveyor and progressed to the position of Chief Quantity Surveyor in 2023. In 2025, he was appointed Director of Physical Planning and Maintenance. He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and the Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria.

With the appointment of Professor Tukur Adamu and the new principal officers, Federal University Gusau is positioning itself for sustained academic excellence, improved infrastructure, and stronger institutional governance.
