Bauchi Schools to Reopen January 4, 2026, as Security Improves — State Government Announces
After weeks of consultations and security assessments, the Bauchi State Government has approved the full reopening of schools across the state, marking a major step toward restoring normal academic activities.
Governor Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON (Kauran Daular Usmaniyya), has given official approval for all Basic, Senior Secondary, and Tertiary Institutions in Bauchi State to resume academic activities on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
The decision follows extensive talks with school principals, education stakeholders, and private school owners, as well as improved security reports from relevant agencies.
Exams to Hold Immediately After Resumption
According to the government, examinations that were scheduled before the schools were closed will now be conducted within the first week of resumption. Normal teaching, learning, and other school activities will continue immediately after the exams are concluded.
Education authorities say this approach will help schools recover lost academic time while maintaining order and proper planning.
Unity Colleges to Reopen Nationwide
The Bauchi State Government also approved the immediate reopening of the three Federal Government Unity Colleges located in the state. This move aligns with directives from the Federal Ministry of Education, ensuring uniformity in the reopening process across the country.
Why Schools Were Closed
Schools in Bauchi were earlier shut down following security advisories from security agencies, amid reports of unsafe incidents in schools in different parts of Nigeria. The precautionary closure was aimed at safeguarding students, teachers, and school workers.
However, authorities now confirm that security conditions have significantly improved, making it safe for students to return to classrooms.
Parents Urged to Return Children to School
The government has called on parents and guardians to ensure their children return to school without delay. It also assured the public that enhanced security measures are being deployed across:
- Primary and secondary schools
- Tertiary institutions
- Hostels and learning environments
These measures are designed to protect students, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff throughout the state.
A Step Toward Academic Stability
Education stakeholders have welcomed the announcement, describing it as a timely intervention to stabilize the academic calendar and reduce learning disruptions.
With safety measures strengthened and exams rescheduled, Bauchi State says it is committed to providing a secure and supportive learning environment for all learners
