MOAUM Stops Campus Signing-Out Celebrations to Ensure Exam Focus and Safety

Makurdi – Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), has officially banned all signing-out celebrations on campus. The directive, issued by the University Management, aims to maintain calm, safety, and fairness, particularly during examination periods. All students are expected to comply with this new regulation.

Why the Ban Was Necessary

Signing-out celebrations, traditionally marked by loud music, shouting, and vibrant displays, often take place near exam rooms and study areas. These distractions can interfere with students still taking exams, creating an environment that is not conducive to focused learning.

Additionally, large gatherings make campus supervision challenging. Crowds can impede staff and security from maintaining order, increasing the risk of disturbances and safety issues.

What the Ban Covers

The ban applies to all signing-out activities on campus, including:

  • Group events organized by graduating students
  • Any displays or activities that attract crowds or create noise
  • Actions connected to signing-out that disrupt exams or campus peace

Even seemingly minor activities linked to signing-out are considered prohibited if conducted on campus.

Protecting Students During Exams

Many students continue to write exams while final-year students celebrate. Loud festivities near exam halls or reading areas can cause anxiety, distraction, and reduced concentration, potentially affecting exam results. The ban ensures that every student has access to a quiet, focused environment.

Maintaining Security and Order

Large signing-out events can create congestion, block pathways, and make it difficult to identify visitors versus students. By prohibiting these gatherings, MOAUM reinforces campus security and ensures staff can respond effectively to emergencies.

Disciplinary Measures

Students found violating this rule may face disciplinary action, which can include:

  • Appearances before the appropriate disciplinary committee
  • Records of misconduct
  • Other lawful sanctions under school regulations

These measures are designed to uphold order, safety, and respect for school policies rather than to punish students unnecessarily.

MOAUM’s ban underscores the university’s commitment to balancing celebration with responsibility, protecting exam integrity, and ensuring a safe, orderly campus for all students.
