2025 FIJ-Adegbite Fellowship Opens: A Golden Opportunity for Young Nigerian Journalists

Young journalists in Nigeria can now apply for a fully funded, one-year investigative journalism fellowship supported by the U.S. Consulate in Lagos.


Are you a young Nigerian journalist eager to sharpen your investigative reporting skills and make national impact? The Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), in partnership with the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, has officially opened applications for the 2025 Adejumobi Adegbite Fellowship.

This prestigious, one-year programme is designed to empower emerging reporters through hands-on training in investigative, multimedia, and data-driven journalism. The fellowship honours the memory of Adejumobi Adegbite, a highly respected journalist and former U.S. Consulate Information Specialist who passed away in July 2023.

What You’ll Gain

Ten selected fellows will receive:

Are You Eligible?

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Be Nigerian citizens
  • Have no more than five years of journalism experience
  • Work as full-time, part-time, freelance journalists or interns
  • Be resident in Nigeria
  • Not have participated in any U.S. government exchange programme
  • Submit two investigative stories published between May 2023 and May 2025

Note: Feature articles, opinion pieces, and analysis stories will not be accepted.

Shortlisted candidates must be available for:

  • An in-person opening session in Lagos
  • Two virtual training sessions
  • A closing event at the end of the programme
