Paul's letter opened with a note of optimism in the willingness of the Corinthian church to present an offering for the Saints of which he had boasted about to the people of Macedonia. Paul, therefore, sent some brethren with the letter in advance to get them prepared for the offering before his coming with some Macedonian Christians before whom he had boasted about their readiness to offer for the saints. He advised them that the gift has to be out of one's free mind not a matter of compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. Philippians 4:14-20, 2 Cor.9 1-15
