contour or convert feathers are smaller than quill feathers. they fill the space between the quill feathers. they trap air to the bird's body and so keeps it warm by preventing heat loss. Quill feathers are the largest feathers found are the wings and tails used for flight and are brake on landing. Down feathers are small and soft. they are found between the contour feathers and are relatively fewer in number when compared with contour feathers. they also keep the bird warm but the contour feathers which are more in number provides greater warmth.
