Biology 2012 JAMB Past Questions - Question 40: Which of the following is true in blood transfusion?
Choose the most appropriate option for the gap .
A:
B:
C:
D:
Correct Answer
A
Explanation
This is because blood group AB contains antigens 'A' and ' B' . If blood from blood group AB is transfused to a recipient of blood group A, the antigen A of incoming blood will react with antibody 'b' of the recipient to cause agglutination. If it goes into blood group 'B', the antigen 'B' of incoming blood will react with antibody 'a' of the recipient to cause agglutination. Similarly, if it goes to blood group O, the antigens 'A' and 'B' of incoming blood will react with antibodies 'b' and 'a' of the recipient blood to produce the same effect
