Xylem is tube like and consists of xylem vessels and tracheid which transport water and mineral salts absorbed from the soil to the leaves of plants. At night, the phloem translocate (transports) food synthesized in the leaves to different parts of the plant. Cambium is a meristematic. tissue found only in dicotyledonous plants. Cambium cells divide repeatedly to form new xylem and phloem cells resulting in increase in girth or width as the plant increases in height due to apical growth. The increase in girths called secondary growth or thickening. Cortex is found mainly in stems and roots of both monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants. It. consists mainly of large thin walled parenchymatous cells.
