Biology 2011 JAMB Past Questions - Question 21: The part of the mammalian ear responsible for the maintenance of balance is the
Correct Answer
A
Explanation
The inner ear has fluid called perilymph at the- periphery while another fluid called endolymph and sensory cells are located inside the organs for maintenance of body balance and posture called three semi circular canals, sacculus and utriculus. Any movement of the body causes the perilymph to move. the movement of the perilymph affects the endolymph which moves to stimulate the sensory cells inside the three semi circular canals. impulses are generated and sent to the brain directs the reflexes which return the body to its normal position. cochlea is an organ of hearing located in the inner ear also. pinna is the outer part of the ear responsible for collecting the directing sound vibration into the external auditory canal the ossicles are three small bones found in the middle ear for amplifying sound solution.
