Biology 2013 JAMB Past Questions - Question 17: Movement of minerals and chemical compounds within a plant occurs during
Correct Answer
A
Explanation
Translocation is the movement of manufactured food(chemical compounds) such as glucose, ,protein etc. from the leaves to other parts of the plant especially to the storage organs at night. Osmosis is the" movement of solvent from solution of low osmotic concentration (hypotonic solution) to solution of high osmotic concentration (hypertonic solution) through a semi permeable membrane. Diffusion is the movement of molecules (gases and ions) from hypertonic solution to hypotonic solution until the two solutions have equal osmotic concentration or are isotonic. Transpiration is the loss of water through the stomata of the leaves and lenticels of the stem to the atmosphere.
