Explanation
After being accepted as King over Judah, Rehoboam went to Shechem to be accepted as King over the north because there was no united Kingdom. The northern delegation led by Jeroboam the son of Nebat told Rehoboam that his father made their yoke heavy and that if he wanted to be their king then he should lighten the hard service of Solomon which consisted the high taxation and forced unpaid labour. But Rehoboam rejected the advice of his father's counselors to listen to the demands of the people and agreed with his contemporaries to increase the sufferings of the people telling them that If his father chastised them with whips he will chastise them with scorpion. Jeroboam then led the Northerners to revolt with the battle cry tr.at they had no inheritance in God. 1 Kings 12 and14:21-31
