Xylem is a vessel that conducts water and mineral salts up the leaves Of plants. The root hairs of wilting plant absorb the coloured water by osmosis and by the same process the water moves into the xylem and stains the xylem vessel. Phloem is a vessel or channel through which carbohydrate manufactured in the leaves is translocated to other parts of plant. Parenchyma is composed of thin walled large cells which when filled with water acts as a supporting tissue especially in young herbaceous plants. It also acts as storage organ and packing tissue. Epidermis is the outer covering of the leaves and stems. It offers protection and contains stomata and therefore photosynthetic.
