Lung fish has gills and lung which compliment each other to ensure the survival of the lung fish both in water and on land during the dry season when the volume of water in fresh water habitat decreases leaving the Sung fish trapped at the muddy bank. Lung fish undergoes aestivation by burrowing into the mud where it constructs a cocoon and remains inside t during the dry season. The fish remains inactive. It takes in oxygen through the funnel or opening that leads into the cocoon. When rainy season returns, the lung fish moves out of the cocoon and moves into the main body of the water and resumes breathing through the gills.
