Ayuba<\/strong>, the university reaffirmed that tuition fees for both <strong>new and returning students<\/strong> have <strong>remained unchanged since 2022<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the memo, PLASU has deliberately maintained its <strong>existing fee structure<\/strong> despite the country\u2019s ongoing <strong>economic challenges and inflation<\/strong>, as part of efforts to <strong>reduce financial stress on students and parents<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Students Thought Fees Increased<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The university clarified that the misunderstanding likely arose from the <strong>introduction of a \u20a65,000 ICT charge<\/strong>, recently approved by the <strong>Governing Council<\/strong>. This new fee, the school emphasized, is <strong>not part of tuition<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, it was introduced to enhance <strong>campus-wide ICT services<\/strong>, including <strong>free internet access<\/strong> for students and staff. The university described the ICT charge as an \u201cinfrastructure-support fee\u201d aimed at improving digital learning and research accessibility across the institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bench Fee Remains the Same<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The memo further explained that the <strong>\u20a610,000 Bench Fee<\/strong>, which was introduced in <strong>2021<\/strong> to replace inconsistent <strong>departmental levies<\/strong>, remains <strong>unchanged<\/strong>. Initially charged only to <strong>final-year students<\/strong>, the Bench Fee now applies to students in <strong>22 departments<\/strong> whose programmes involve <strong>fieldwork, excursions, productions<\/strong>, and other <strong>outdoor learning activities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Students Encouraged to Use NELFUND Loan<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>PLASU also reminded students of the <strong>Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND)<\/strong> recently introduced by the <strong>Federal Government<\/strong>.
