The relief, the joy, and the tradition of scribbling names and farewell messages on shirts. At the <strong>Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA)<\/strong>, however, that tradition has just been reshaped \u2014 not banned, but carefully guided with a set of official rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why FULAFIA Introduced the Policy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>signing-out culture<\/strong> has always been a symbol of freedom and excitement for final-year students. But over the years, it has also sparked issues \u2014 from rowdy behavior and property damage to accidents and clashes with staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To strike a balance between fun and discipline, FULAFIA has rolled out a new policy. Instead of banning the signing-out celebration outright, the school has provided a structured guide that allows students to celebrate safely, respectfully, and meaningfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Aims in Simple Terms<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the university management, the new rules are designed to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Maintain peace and discipline on campus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Protect the school\u2019s image and reputation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reduce accidents and rowdy behavior.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Safeguard students, staff, and nearby residents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create a meaningful tradition for future graduates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who the Rules Cover<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The policy applies to <strong>all final-year students<\/strong> across departments, faculties, and associations. Supervising staff members are also directly involved in monitoring the celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How the Celebration Will Now Happen<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the new guidelines, here\u2019s what the signing-out day will look like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Celebration begins <strong>immediately after the last exam<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each department organizes the event, overseen by the <strong>Head of Department (HOD)<\/strong> or a representative.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Duration: <strong>1 hour to 90 minutes maximum<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The event will follow four sessions:\n<ol>\n<li>Opening prayer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Speeches (by students, mentors, or invited guests)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Signing-out ceremony<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refreshments<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A new feature has also been introduced \u2014 a <strong>signing-out register<\/strong>. Students will record their details (name, matriculation number, state, contact info, and more). The original copy will be stored in the Alumni office, while students get copies for keepsake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What\u2019s Strictly Not Allowed<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>FULAFIA has placed a strong ban on certain activities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>No writing or signing on shirts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No alcohol.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No smoking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No loud music.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No reckless driving or \u201ccruise rides\u201d around campus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Food and photos are allowed \u2014 but only during the refreshment session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final Note from the School<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The university emphasized that the rules are flexible and may be improved later, with input from the Student Union.
