The committee\u2019s urgency follows a wave of disturbing reports surrounding the ongoing <strong>Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why This Matters<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From students writing exams at midnight to poor coordination across centres, the SSCE 2025 has triggered public outrage. The committee says it\u2019s no longer accepting excuses\u2014and wants real answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Missed Meeting Deepens Concern<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WAEC was originally scheduled to appear before the committee on <strong>Tuesday, May 27<\/strong>, but failed to show up. Oboku Abonsizibe Oforji<\/strong>, Chairman of the Committee on Basic Education.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He described WAEC\u2019s absence as unacceptable and said it sends the wrong message at a time when public confidence in the process is already shaken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Disturbing Reports: Students Sitting Exams at Midnight?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the committee briefing, Hon. Oforji raised serious concerns over field reports indicating that students in some centres were forced to write exams <strong>late into the night<\/strong>, in some cases until <strong>midnight<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s not just disorganised. It\u2019s traumatic for these young people,\u201d he stated.<br>\u201cWAEC has conducted these exams for decades. So, what went wrong this year?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These reports suggest a level of mismanagement that lawmakers say must be urgently addressed\u2014not just for this exam cycle, but to prevent a repeat in future ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lawmakers Demand Immediate Action<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the committee insists it is not out to witch-hunt WAEC, it has made clear that <strong>accountability<\/strong> is non-negotiable. Hon. Oforji warned that failure to appear on Friday will trigger legal consequences, including the possible use of House powers to compel compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is no longer a request. It\u2019s an obligation,\u201d he said.<br>\u201cWe are here to protect the integrity of Nigeria\u2019s education system.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Comes Next?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the clock ticking, WAEC\u2019s next move will be closely watched.
