The decision follows resolutions made at the Nigerian Medical Association\u2019s (NMA) 64th Annual General Meeting held in May 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>New Fee Structure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>N40,000<\/strong>: For healthcare practitioners with 10 or more years of experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>N20,000<\/strong>: For those with less than 10 years of experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These revised fees are in line with Section 14 of the MDCN Act, which governs the regulation of healthcare practitioners in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What the MDCN Act Says<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MDCN Act outlines important guidelines regarding the payment of license fees:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Section 14(3)<\/strong>: The Council can adjust practicing fees with the approval of the Minister.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Section 14(5)<\/strong>: It is illegal to practice without paying the prescribed fee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Penalties for Non-Payment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Healthcare practitioners who fail to pay the revised fees will face significant penalties:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>First Offense<\/strong>: A fine of twice the unpaid fee.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Subsequent Offenses<\/strong>: A fine of at least ten times the unpaid fee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Employers who allow unlicensed practitioners to work without payment of the required fee could also be penalized, unless they can prove they were unaware or not involved in the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why Compliance Matters<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Healthcare practitioners are urged to ensure they pay the new fees on time to avoid these penalties.
