JAMB sets the questions for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) which is taken by students seeking admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the frequently asked questions by JAMB candidates is the number of questions in each subject. JAMB sets a total of 60 questions for Use of English, which is compulsory for all candidates, and sets 40 questions for the other subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This means that candidates will have to answer a total of 180 questions in three hours. The UTME examination is a Computer-Based Test (CBT) and candidates are required to select the correct option for each question from the options provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The distribution of questions across subjects reflects the weight of each subject in the UTME. Use of English is given more emphasis because it is a compulsory subject and also serves as a means of assessing the candidates\u2019 ability to communicate effectively in English, which is the official language of instruction in Nigerian tertiary institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mathematics is also given significant weight because it is a core subject required for admission into courses like engineering, sciences, and economics. Other subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, Commerce, etc. are given fewer questions because they are usually offered as elective subjects and may not be required for all courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is important for candidates to note that each subject carries equal weightage, and they should aim to score high in all the subjects. Candidates should also note that there is a negative marking system in place, which means that for every wrong answer, 1\/4 of the mark for that question will be deducted. This means that candidates should be careful while answering questions and should avoid guessing if they are not sure of the correct answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In conclusion, JAMB sets a total of 60 questions for Use of English and 40 questions for the other subjects. Candidates should aim to score high in all the subjects and should also be careful while answering questions to avoid losing marks due to negative marking.
